Liverpool and Manchester United are closely monitoring the situation of Real Madrid midfielder Aurélien Tchouaméni after growing uncertainty emerged over his future at the Spanish giants.
The France international has long been admired by both Premier League clubs, and fresh reports suggest his position at the Santiago Bernabéu may no longer be as secure as it once appeared. Sources indicate Real Madrid have informed the midfielder that his place in the club’s long-term plans is not guaranteed as José Mourinho continues a major squad overhaul.
Tchouaméni joined Real Madrid from Monaco in 2022 in a deal initially worth €80 million and has since established himself as a regular for both club and country. The 26-year-old has also earned more than 40 caps for France and is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders in world football.
However, Madrid’s midfield is expected to undergo further changes this summer. Following the arrivals of Bernardo Silva and other high-profile additions, the club continues to explore new midfield targets, including Chelsea’s Enzo Fernández and other emerging talents. That has created uncertainty around several existing players, including Tchouaméni and fellow French international Eduardo Camavinga.

Liverpool’s interest in Tchouaméni stretches back several years. The Merseyside club attempted to sign him before his move to Madrid and have continued to track his progress in Spain. With the Reds assessing long-term midfield options, the Frenchman remains highly regarded within recruitment circles.
Manchester United are also believed to be strong admirers. Reports suggest the Old Trafford hierarchy view Tchouaméni as a player capable of transforming their midfield and have maintained interest despite previous indications that Madrid considered him untouchable.
The midfielder’s future became a talking point earlier this year following a highly publicised training-ground altercation with teammate Federico Valverde. While both players later apologised and remained part of Madrid’s plans, the incident added to speculation surrounding Tchouaméni’s standing at the club.
According to reports from Spain and England, Real Madrid could now be willing to consider offers if the right proposal arrives. The Spanish giants are believed to value Tchouaméni at around €100 million (£87 million), viewing him as one of the few players capable of generating a substantial transfer fee to help fund further investment in Mourinho’s rebuilding project.
Despite the growing speculation, a transfer remains far from certain. Some reports continue to suggest Mourinho sees Tchouaméni as an important part of his squad, highlighting the mixed signals surrounding the player’s future.
For now, Liverpool and Manchester United are keeping a close watch. If Madrid decide to cash in, one of the summer’s biggest transfer battles could soon be underway.
