Bruno Fernandes has appeared to react to being left out of Manchester United’s starting line-up by liking a cryptic Instagram post about loyalty.

The United captain was an unused substitute in Sunday’s 3-0 defeat by Bournemouth, days after publicly questioning Michael Carrick’s tactics following the 4-1 Champions League loss to Como.

The post Fernandes appeared to like featured the message: “Never push a loyal person to the point where they no longer care.”

Fernandes has not explained why he liked it, and it is unclear whether the post was aimed at Carrick or Manchester United. Its timing, however, has drawn attention amid growing tension around the club.

Fernandes questioned Carrick’s tactics

After the defeat by Como on October 21, Fernandes said United had not pressed their opponents man-to-man and argued that the team needed to be braver under pressure.

Asked whether he believed Carrick had got his tactics wrong, the midfielder said it was for the manager and coaching staff to judge. He added that United needed to take more risks and press higher.

Carrick left Fernandes out of the team for the Bournemouth match. Before kick-off, he said the decision was made for “pure football” reasons. Fernandes did not come on as United lost 3-0 at Old Trafford.

Garnacho comparisons emerge

The social media activity has drawn comparisons with former United winger Alejandro Garnacho, who used to make pointed posts during his time at the club.

Garnacho, now on loan at Aston Villa from Chelsea, previously showed support for Marcus Rashford on social media while Ruben Amorim was in charge at United. He later liked a post announcing Amorim’s dismissal.

For now, Fernandes has made no public statement about his Instagram activity or his omission against Bournemouth. The post has fuelled speculation about his mood, but it does not confirm what he intended to communicate.
