Newcastle United have turned their attention to sign Brentford forward Yoane Wissa after Liverpool joined the race for Eintracht Frankfurt forward Hugo Ekitike.
Liverpool made the decision to move for Ekitike after being told by Newcastle that their star striker Alexander Isak is not for sale in this window.
After Frankfurt rejected a £70m bid from the Magpies for Ekitike and it became clear he prefers to join Liverpool, The North East giants have now set their sights on Wissa.
With one year left on his Brentford contract, the 28-year-old Congo international, who scored 19 goals across his 35 Premier League appearances last season, is valued between £30 and £40m.
This deal however could be complicated by the fact that Manchester United have made a third bid of £70m for Bryan Mbeumo and Brentford are unlikely to sell their two best wingers in the same window.
The club have already lost their head coach Thomas Frank who joined Tottenham and reliable captain Christian Norgaard who made the switch to Arsenal a few weeks ago.
Brentford have already knocked back a £25m bid from Nottingham Forest for Wissa earlier this window.
