Talks between Manchester United and Brentford over the transfer of winger Bryan Mbeumo (25) appear to have reached a standstill with reports indicating the two clubs are “several million pounds” apart in their valuation.
The quickfire signing of Matheus Cunha from Wolverhampton Wanderers at the very start of June for £62.5m convinced many the Mbeumo deal would be concluded in a similar speedy manner.
But it appears Brentford are digging in their heels and are insisting on £65m as an upfront fee while the Red Devils last bid was worth £55m plus £7.5m in add-ons.
Although Tottenham, now coached by former Brentford manager Thomas Frank, are also interested in signing Mbeumo, the Cameroon forward has made it clear he only wants to join United.
Manchester United fans are growing increasingly concerned at the amount of time its taking to conclude the deal although there is an air of inevitability that it will be a done deal soon.
Brentford are having their top talents being picked off them with club captain Christian Norgaard, 31, joining Arsenal for £12m and striker Yoane Wissa a target for Tottenham, Newcastle and Nottingham Forest.
The club have already rejected a £22m bid from Tottenham and on Monday revealed they are not prepared to sell Mbeumo and Wissa in the same window.
Mbeumo scored 20 Premier League goals last season while Wissa netted 19. The club also lost their manager in Frank, although they received £10m in compensation when his release clause was paid.
