German Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt have turned down Newcastle United’s club-record £70m offer for French striker Hugo Ekitike.
Frankfurt who value Ekitike at £85m are reportedly aware of interest in their striker from Liverpool and are said to be holding out for more money from a bidding war.
It was initially thought Newcastle were open to selling their own star striker Alexander Isak to Liverpool and value him at £150m and that Ekitike would replace him.
But it has since been reported Newcastle have told Liverpool that Isak is not for sale.
This means the Anfield side are now rivalling Newcastle for Ekitike’s signature.
Newcastle have held a long standing interest in Ekitike, having tried to sign the striker in 2022, before the Frenchman chose to join PSG.
Frankfurt are set to churn a huge profit after only buying Ekitike from PSG for £14m last summer.
The 23-year-old scored 48 games across all competitions last season for Frankfurt as he helped them qualify for the Champions League.
Meanwhile Newcastle have already spent £55m on Anthony Elanga from Nottingham Forest as they look to shore up their squad for the Champions League campaign.
