Harry Kane has reportedly put contract discussions and transfer speculation on hold after Barcelona made an approach to explore the possibility of signing the Bayern Munich striker this summer.

The England captain has emerged as one of Barcelona’s leading options to replace Robert Lewandowski, who is expected to complete a move to MLS side Chicago Fire after agreeing terms with the American club.

With Lewandowski’s departure imminent, Barcelona have begun assessing potential replacements. Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez remains high on the club’s shortlist, but reports claim the Catalan giants have also sounded out Kane’s representatives over a possible move to Camp Nou.

However, the initial approach has failed to gain immediate traction.

According to reports, Kane’s representatives informed Barcelona that the striker has no interest in discussing his future while England remain involved in the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Instead, all transfer conversations have been postponed until after the tournament concludes.

The 32-year-old is enjoying arguably the finest season of his career, having scored an astonishing 70 goals in 60 appearances for club and country. His remarkable form has placed him among the favourites for this year’s Ballon d’Or and reinforced his status as one of world football’s elite forwards.

Although Kane is entering the final year of his Bayern Munich contract, reports indicate he remains happy in Germany. His priority after the World Cup is expected to be discussions over a contract extension rather than an immediate transfer elsewhere.

Barcelona are nevertheless expected to revisit the situation later this summer if they are unable to secure Alvarez. The Spanish champions believe Kane’s experience, goalscoring record and winning mentality make him an ideal successor to Lewandowski as they look to maintain their dominance in La Liga and compete for the UEFA Champions League.

Despite the growing speculation, Bayern Munich are understood to have little interest in selling their star striker. Club officials view Kane as central to their long-term plans and are expected to resist any formal approach should Barcelona return with an offer after the World Cup.

Kane has also previously played down reports linking him with Barcelona. Earlier this year, he insisted he had not been informed of any concrete interest and reiterated that he was happy at Bayern, where he has established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s most prolific forwards.

For now, the England captain remains fully focused on international duty, with his future expected to become one of the biggest transfer stories once the World Cup reaches its conclusion. Barcelona’s admiration is clear, but whether they can tempt Kane away from Bayern Munich remains uncertain.
