Liverpool have been encouraged to consider a move for Brighton & Hove Albion winger Yankuba Minteh as the search for Mohamed Salah’s long-term replacement gathers pace.
Replacing one of the greatest players in the club’s history has become one of Liverpool’s biggest priorities following Salah’s departure, with several attacking targets now under consideration after the Reds missed out on their preferred option, Yan Diomande.
Diomande is expected to favour a switch to Paris Saint-Germain, forcing Liverpool to explore alternative options for the right side of their attack.
PSG winger Bradley Barcola remains one of the club’s leading targets, but any deal would be complicated by his reported price tag of more than £116 million and the French champions’ reluctance to sell.
If a move for Barcola proves too difficult, Liverpool journalist David Lynch believes Minteh could be the ideal alternative despite the Gambian international enduring a modest campaign with Brighton.
Speaking on the Anfield Index YouTube channel, Lynch said Minteh stands out ahead of other reported targets such as Lille’s Matias Fernandez-Pardo and FC Köln youngster Said El Mala.
According to Lynch, Minteh’s profile is particularly well suited to Liverpool’s system because he is naturally left-footed while operating from the right wing, already has Premier League experience and contributes significantly without the ball.
Although the 21-year-old managed just three goals and four assists in 34 appearances last season, Lynch believes Brighton’s tactical approach limited his attacking output.
He argued that Minteh is often forced to stay wide rather than making runs into central scoring areas, suggesting Liverpool’s style of play could unlock far greater productivity.
Lynch also highlighted the winger’s impressive defensive work rate, claiming his pressing and off-the-ball contributions would fit seamlessly into Liverpool’s high-intensity approach.
Despite praising Minteh, Lynch stressed that Barcola should remain Liverpool’s priority if a deal becomes financially possible.
Recent reports have suggested Liverpool’s chances of signing the France international have improved, with PSG’s contract talks with Barcola reportedly at a standstill while the club continues pursuing additional attacking reinforcements.
With PSG also linked to further winger signings, Barcola’s long-term future in Paris remains uncertain, potentially giving Liverpool hope of landing one of Europe’s most highly rated young attackers.
For now, however, Minteh has emerged as a serious candidate should Liverpool decide a move for Barcola is beyond reach.
