Tottenham Hotspur have completed the signing of Brazil winger Sávio from Manchester City in a deal worth up to £85 million, finally landing a player they failed to secure last summer.
Spurs will pay an initial £75 million for the 22-year-old, with another £10 million potentially due in add-ons. Of those bonuses, £5 million are understood to be effectively guaranteed, meaning City are expected to receive at least £80 million from the transfer.
Tottenham officially announced Sávio’s arrival on Tuesday, describing him as an “exciting and pacey winger” following his two seasons with City. The Brazilian will wear the No 17 shirt in north London.
Savinho becomes Sávio at Tottenham
The transfer also comes with a change in how Tottenham’s new signing will be known.
The Brazil international, whose full name is Sávio Moreira de Oliveira, was known as Savinho during his time at Manchester City but has reverted to Sávio following his move to Spurs.
Sávio previously explained that the Savinho nickname stuck after it appeared on the back of his shirt following his first call-up to the Brazil national team. He continued using it after moving from Girona to Manchester City in 2024 but has now returned to his actual name.
His new identity will also appear on his Tottenham shirt, alongside his confirmed No 17 squad number.
De Zerbi welcomes new attacking weapon
Sávio gives Tottenham head coach Roberto De Zerbi another major attacking option following an extraordinary summer of investment in the squad.
De Zerbi highlighted the winger’s ability to take on opponents and create chances after the transfer was completed.
“Sávio is a player who brings energy, imagination and quality in wide positions,” De Zerbi said.
“He has the courage to attack defenders and the ability to change a game with his creativity.
“We’re very pleased to have him with us, and I’m looking forward to working with him, helping him continue to grow and seeing him bring his personality to the team.”
The signing takes Tottenham’s summer spending beyond £300 million as De Zerbi oversees a major overhaul of his squad.
Spurs finally land long-term target
Tottenham had attempted to sign Sávio last summer but were unable to prise him away from City. They returned this year and eventually reached agreement on the £75 million initial fee plus bonuses.
Sávio originally moved to City in 2024 after an impressive loan spell with Girona. He went on to make 84 appearances for the Manchester club, scoring seven goals.
He has already been registered by Tottenham and is eligible to make his debut when Spurs host Charlton Athletic in the third round of the Carabao Cup.
His arrival may not be the end of Tottenham’s dealings with Manchester City, with Spurs also pursuing Egyptian forward Omar Marmoush.
