Trevoh Chalobah is on the verge of ending his long association with Chelsea after agreeing to join Serie A club Como in a deal worth £25 million plus a further £5 million in add-ons.
The 27-year-old England international is expected to complete a medical in Italy before signing a five-year contract, bringing the curtain down on a journey that began when he joined Chelsea’s academy as an eight-year-old.
Chalobah leaves Stamford Bridge after making his breakthrough in the first team and becoming an important member of the squad. During his Chelsea career, he also gained valuable experience on loan with Ipswich Town, Huddersfield Town, Lorient and Crystal Palace before establishing himself in west London.
His return from Crystal Palace midway through 2025 proved to be a turning point, with the defender forcing his way back into Chelsea’s plans and becoming a regular starter.
He helped the Blues win the UEFA Conference League and the FIFA Club World Cup, including starting the Club World Cup final against Paris Saint-Germain.
The move reunites Chalobah with former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas, who is now head coach of Como.
Fabregas has overseen the Italian club’s rapid rise, guiding them into the UEFA Champions League after an outstanding Serie A campaign. Chalobah is expected to become one of the marquee signings as Como prepare for their first appearance in Europe’s premier club competition.
Chelsea’s decision to sell Chalobah forms part of a busy summer of defensive changes.
