England and Al-Ahli striker Ivan Toney has been charged with assault causing actual bodily harm following an alleged incident at a nightclub in Soho, central London.
The Metropolitan Police said the alleged offence took place on 6 December 2025 at a nightclub on Wardour Street. Toney, 30, was formally charged on 31 July and is scheduled to appear at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on 24 September.
Police have not released further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident.
In a statement issued through his representative, Toney said:
“Ivan acknowledges the charge and although he is naturally shocked, he looks forward to being given the opportunity to clear his name in court.”
The court appearance is set to take place just two days before England are due to face Spain in their UEFA Nations League opener at Wembley.
Toney currently plays for Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli after joining the club from Brentford in a reported £40 million transfer in August 2024. Last season he scored 42 goals, helping Al-Ahli retain the AFC Champions League Elite title.
The striker began his senior career with hometown club Northampton Town before moving to Newcastle United in 2015. After loan spells with Barnsley, Shrewsbury Town, Scunthorpe United and Wigan Athletic, he rebuilt his career at Peterborough United before starring for Brentford.
He played a pivotal role in Brentford’s promotion to the Premier League in 2021, breaking the Championship’s regular-season scoring record with 31 goals before later earning his first England call-up.
Toney was part of England’s squad at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, making two appearances as the Three Lions finished third.
The criminal proceedings are ongoing, and Toney has not entered a plea publicly. As with all criminal cases, the charge is an allegation, and he is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in court.
