Everton have stepped up their search for another attacking option by making an enquiry about Como winger Assane Diao.

The Toffees have contacted the Serie A club to explore the possibility of bringing the 20-year-old Senegal international to the Premier League before the summer transfer window closes.

The latest approach was first reported by transfer journalist Matteo Moretto, with Everton understood to be assessing what it would take to prise Diao away from Como.

No agreement has been reached and Como’s willingness to sell remains a key question. Reports earlier in the summer suggested the Italian club placed a substantial valuation on one of their most promising young attackers.

Diao has established himself as an exciting prospect since moving to Italy from Real Betis in January 2025.

Born in Senegal but developed largely in Spain, he represented Spain at several youth levels before committing his senior international future to Senegal.

His performances for Como earned him a first Senegal call-up in 2025, and he was subsequently included in the country’s squad for the 2026 World Cup.

Diao has scored 10 league goals in 28 Serie A appearances for Como, underlining the attacking threat that has attracted Everton’s attention.

His ability to operate across the forward line would give David Moyes another option as Everton look to strengthen their attacking depth.

Everton’s interest is not entirely new. Diao has been linked with the Merseyside club earlier in the transfer window, with reports suggesting Como were reluctant to lose him unless they received a substantial offer.

The Toffees have now returned to the situation by making another enquiry.

Moyes has publicly acknowledged that Everton still have considerable transfer business to complete before the window closes, saying he wants to make “quite a few” more additions to his squad.

Diao fits the profile of a player who could offer both immediate competition and longer-term potential.

At only 20, he already has experience in La Liga, Serie A and international football, while his pace and ability to play from wide positions could add another dimension to Everton’s attack.

The immediate challenge will be convincing Como to negotiate at a price Everton consider realistic.

For now, the approach remains at the enquiry stage rather than an advanced transfer. But with the deadline approaching and Everton actively searching for reinforcements, Diao has emerged as a player to watch during the final weeks of the window.
