Newcastle United have reportedly placed a staggering £100 million valuation on midfielder Sandro Tonali amid growing interest from some of the Premier League’s biggest clubs.
The Italian international has emerged as one of the most sought-after midfielders ahead of the summer transfer window, with Arsenal, Manchester United and Manchester City all monitoring his situation at St James’ Park.
According to reports in Italy, Newcastle are demanding around €115 million (£100 million) for the 26-year-old, a fee that would make him one of the most expensive midfielders in football history if a deal were completed.
The interest comes at a time when several Premier League giants are looking to strengthen their midfield options.
Arsenal are expected to add further depth despite already having Declan Rice and Martin Zubimendi available for next season. The emergence of youngster Myles Lewis-Skelly may influence their transfer plans, but midfield reinforcements remain under consideration.
Manchester United have already moved to bolster their midfield after agreeing a £35 million deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. However, reports suggest Ruben Amorim is still keen to bring in another central midfielder, with West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes also attracting attention.
Manchester City are likewise searching for fresh options in the middle of the park. Pep Guardiola’s side have been heavily linked with Nottingham Forest star Elliot Anderson, although an opening bid was reportedly rejected. Should negotiations stall, Tonali is said to be among the alternative targets under consideration.
That has raised the possibility of a three-way battle between Arsenal, United and City for the Newcastle midfielder.
Despite the speculation, Newcastle are not believed to be actively looking to sell Tonali. The former AC Milan star remains a key figure in Eddie Howe’s plans and has become one of the club’s most influential players since returning to regular action.
Questions over his future intensified after Newcastle missed out on European qualification for next season, fuelling suggestions that some of the club’s biggest names could consider their options.
However, Tonali’s agent Giuseppe Riso previously indicated the midfielder remains strongly attached to Newcastle.
“Newcastle are having a hard time letting go of Sandro, and he wants to lead the club to the Champions League,” Riso said earlier this year.
He added that discussions about the player’s future would take place after the season, stressing that no decision had been made and there was currently no preferred destination.
With three of England’s biggest clubs reportedly interested and Newcastle demanding a nine-figure fee, Tonali’s future could become one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.
