Brentford have completed the signing of Senegal international El Hadji Malick Diouf from West Ham United in a deal worth up to £40 million.
The Bees will pay an initial £35 million for the 21-year-old left-back, with a further £5 million potentially due in add-ons. Diouf has signed a five-year contract at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Brentford holding an option to extend his stay by another year.
Brentford officially confirmed the transfer on Friday, although the club did not disclose the fee. The reported £40m package represents a significant investment in a player who impressed during his first season in English football.
Andrews delighted with Diouf capture
Brentford head coach Keith Andrews believes Diouf’s age, Premier League experience and potential make him an ideal addition to his squad.
“We’re really pleased that we were able to sign Malick,” Andrews said.
“He’s a player that fits our ideal age profile, with lots of room to still develop.
“I think he had a really good year at West Ham in his first season in English football, and some of the qualities and attributes he has as a full-back really add to an already impressive part of our team.
“I’m really keen to get to work with Malick.”
Diouf also revealed that conversations with Andrews and Brentford officials helped convince him to make the move across London.
“I’m really happy, really happy to be here at this amazing club,” Diouf said. “I was looking forward to it. Now I’m here and I’m ready to give everything.”
Diouf impressed in Premier League debut season
Diouf joined West Ham from Slavia Prague in July 2025 after impressing in the Czech Republic.
He quickly established himself in the Hammers’ side, making 32 Premier League appearances during the 2025-26 campaign and registering five assists.
His performances attracted interest during the summer, but Brentford made the Senegalese defender a priority target. West Ham eventually accepted a package consisting of £35m guaranteed plus £5m in potential bonuses.
The move also represents a substantial return for West Ham, who reportedly paid around £19m to sign Diouf from Slavia Prague only a year ago.
Senegal international strengthens Brentford defence
Diouf has also established himself at international level since making his senior Senegal debut in September 2024.
He featured at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations and was subsequently selected for Senegal’s squad for the 2026 World Cup in North America.
His arrival gives Andrews another attacking option at left-back and reunites Diouf with former West Ham striker Callum Wilson, who joined Brentford earlier this summer.
Wilson has already backed his former team-mate to make an impact, highlighting Diouf’s work rate and delivery from the left.
Diouf now begins the next stage of his Premier League career with Brentford after just one season at West Ham.
