Nick Woltemade has arrived in Turin to undergo a medical ahead of completing a season-long loan move from Newcastle United to Juventus.

The Germany international landed at Turin’s Caselle Airport on Tuesday and is due to complete medical checks before signing his Juventus contract. The clubs have agreed a straight loan, with no option or obligation for the Italian giants to buy him permanently next summer.

Juventus are expected to pay Newcastle around €4m-€5m for the loan, while the Serie A club will also cover Woltemade’s salary during his season in Italy.

Juventus move quickly for Woltemade

The transfer accelerated during the final hours of the Italian window after Juventus identified Woltemade as their preferred attacking reinforcement.

Sky Germany reported that the 24-year-old gave his approval to the move before travelling to Turin for his medical.

Juventus had also considered Manchester United forward Joshua Zirkzee, but the conditions surrounding that deal proved more complicated. Woltemade subsequently emerged as the more attainable option.

The move also follows Jonathan David’s departure from Juventus to Atletico Madrid, creating space in Luciano Spalletti’s attacking options.

Crucially for Newcastle, Juventus have not secured either an option or obligation to buy Woltemade. The Magpies will therefore retain control of the striker’s future when his loan ends.

£69m Newcastle gamble put on hold

Woltemade’s departure comes barely 12 months after Newcastle shattered their transfer record to bring him to St James’ Park.

The Magpies signed the 6ft 6in forward from Stuttgart in August 2025 for a package worth up to £69m, eclipsing the £63m they had previously paid for Alexander Isak.

Woltemade had arrived in England after an impressive campaign in Germany in which he scored 17 goals in 33 appearances across the Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal.

He initially made an encouraging start at Newcastle, scoring four times in his first five Premier League appearances. His form subsequently faded, however, and he finished his first league campaign with eight goals.

The German has since found regular starting opportunities difficult to secure under Newcastle head coach Matthias Jaissle.

Newcastle retain control of striker’s future

The absence of a purchase clause means Woltemade’s Newcastle career is not necessarily over.

He remains tied to a long-term contract at St James’ Park, allowing Newcastle to reassess his position when he returns from Italy next summer.

Juventus, meanwhile, gain a striker with a different physical and technical profile without committing themselves to another major permanent transfer.

Woltemade stands at 1.98 metres but is also recognised for his technical ability and capacity to link play rather than operating purely as a traditional target man.

He leaves Newcastle having scored 11 goals in 51 appearances across all competitions.

The transfer is now awaiting the completion of his medical and final paperwork. With Woltemade already in Turin and the clubs in agreement, his season-long switch to Juventus is expected to be finalised before the Italian transfer deadline.
