Manchester United agree £71m deal to buy Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford

Manchester United have agreed to pay over £70m to sign Bryan Mbeumo from Brentford. The deal includes an upfront fee of £65m, with an extra £6m possible in add-ons.

Last season, the Cameroonian scored 20 Premier League goals and became a key target for United’s new coach Ruben Amorim. United first bid for Mbeumo six weeks ago, but their offers were rejected.

Despite interest from Tottenham and his former coach Thomas Frank, Mbeumo has made it clear he wants to move to Old Trafford. Personal terms are not expected to be a problem.

Mbeumo is expected to become United’s third new signing this summer. The club already spent £62.5m on Brazilian forward Matheus Cunha from Wolves, and they added Paraguayan full-back Diego León.

The plan is for Mbeumo to play in one of the two No 10 roles in a 3-4-3 formation. United are also looking for a striker and remain interested in Chelsea’s Nicolas Jackson.

Mbeumo will travel with United on their upcoming US tour starting next week. This will give him time to settle in and learn Amorim’s style and demands.

Brentford will make a good profit from the sale. They signed Mbeumo from Troyes in 2019 for only £5.8m.

He spent two seasons in the Championship before helping Brentford get promoted. Since then, he scored 42 goals in 136 Premier League games.

United are also trying to sell five players who are not in Amorim’s plans.

Marcus Rashford, Alejandro Garnacho, Antony, Jadon Sancho, and Tyrell Malacia want to leave. The club has allowed them time away from training while they look for new clubs.
