Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester United have reportedly made calls to check on Lennart Karl’s situation at Bayern Munich, but the German club still want to keep the highly rated teenager.
Christian Falk, a journalist who covers Bayern, said the Premier League clubs had contacted people to establish whether Bayern were satisfied with the 18-year-old and what his availability might be. He said the calls did not amount to transfer negotiations.
Falk also said Bayern’s football leadership remained confident in Karl and wanted him to stay. He pointed out that Uli Hoeness, who recently advised the teenager to show humility, is on the club’s supervisory board and is not involved in its daily football operations.
Hoeness comments draw attention to Karl
Hoeness recently said Karl was “far from being a superstar” and needed to “have humility”. The comments have drawn attention to the young player’s position at Bayern and prompted clubs to check whether there might be an opening.
Falk suggested Hoeness likes to provoke a reaction, and said the senior official’s remarks should not automatically be taken as a sign that the people running Bayern’s football operation have lost faith in Karl. According to Falk, those involved in the club’s day-to-day decisions remain confident in the teenager.
That distinction is important: the reported calls indicate interest and enquiries about the situation, but do not show that Bayern are ready to sell. Nor has a formal offer or negotiation been reported.
Contract situation and playing time
Karl’s contract situation is also attracting attention. Falk said there have not yet been talks over a new deal, while TEAMtalk has reported that the teenager could become one to watch as clubs plan for 2027.
The supplied report says Karl has started four matches across the Bundesliga and Champions League this season. His limited number of starts is one reason rival clubs believe there could be an opportunity, although Bayern’s reported desire to retain him could make any move difficult.
Falk put Karl’s value at about €60 million, or roughly £50 million. That figure gives an indication of the scale of any potential deal, but it is not a transfer fee agreed between clubs.
Liverpool would face competition
Liverpool have recruited from the Bundesliga in recent seasons, with Florian Wirtz and Jeremie Frimpong joining from Germany last summer and Dominik Szoboszlai arriving earlier. Karl is now being linked with the club as they assess young talent in the German league.
Arsenal and Manchester United have also reportedly checked on his availability. With several Premier League sides watching the same situation, Bayern’s contract discussions and Karl’s opportunities for first-team football could shape what happens next.
For now, the reported contacts appear to be exploratory. Bayern want to keep Karl, and there is no confirmation that Liverpool or any other club has made a bid. Any suggestion that a transfer is close would go beyond the information currently available.
