Haaland fires Manchester City to crucial win over Arsenal to ignite Premier League title race

City move within three points of leaders Arsenal after dramatic Etihad clash

Erling Haaland scored a decisive second-half winner as Manchester City beat Arsenal 2-1 to blow the Premier League title race wide open.

The Norwegian struck in the 65th minute to restore City’s lead after Kai Havertz had cancelled out an earlier opener from Rayan Cherki.

The result cuts Arsenal’s lead at the top to just three points, with City holding a crucial game in hand.

City started on the front foot and were rewarded in the 16th minute when Cherki produced a moment of brilliance, weaving past defenders before slotting home.

However, the lead lasted just two minutes as a costly error from Gianluigi Donnarumma allowed Havertz to capitalise and level the match.

Both sides traded chances in an open contest, with Haaland hitting the woodwork early in the second half, while Arsenal threatened through Havertz and Martin Ødegaard.

The decisive moment came when City worked the ball down the left flank, and after a deflection, Haaland reacted quickest inside the box to fire home the winner.

Arsenal pushed for a late equaliser, with Gabriel Magalhães hitting the post and Havertz missing a golden chance in stoppage time.

Tempers flared late on, with Gabriel fortunate to avoid a red card after clashing with Haaland in a heated exchange.

The victory gives City momentum in the title race as they chase a seventh league title in nine seasons, while Arsenal’s hopes of ending their long wait for the crown suffer a significant setback.
