Arsenal handed Gibbs-White boost as Forest face transfer dilemma

Morgan Gibbs-White remains firmly on Arsenal's radar, but Nottingham Forest may have to make a major decision if Manchester City succeed in signing Elliot Anderson.

Arsenal’s pursuit of Morgan Gibbs-White could be given fresh encouragement this summer as Nottingham Forest face growing uncertainty over the future of another key midfielder, Elliot Anderson.

The Gunners are keen to strengthen their attacking midfield options ahead of the new season and have identified Gibbs-White as a serious alternative to Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

While Rogers remains highly rated by Arsenal, Aston Villa’s valuation of more than £100 million has made a deal increasingly difficult. As a result, attention has turned towards Gibbs-White, who continues to attract admirers at the Emirates.

The 26-year-old enjoyed another outstanding campaign for Forest, registering 18 goals and seven assists in all competitions. His creativity and leadership were instrumental as Forest secured Premier League survival and made a memorable run to the Europa League semi-finals.

Despite those performances, Gibbs-White was surprisingly left out of Thomas Tuchel’s England World Cup squad, a decision that sparked considerable debate.

Arsenal, however, remain convinced of his quality.

Any move for the midfielder faces a significant obstacle. Gibbs-White signed a long-term contract extension with Forest last year that runs until 2028, strengthening the club’s position in negotiations. Reports suggest Forest would demand around £70 million to even consider a sale.

The situation is further complicated by Manchester City’s ongoing pursuit of Elliot Anderson.

City are pushing to complete a deal for the Forest midfielder and are expected to return with an improved offer after seeing an initial bid rejected. Should Anderson leave the City Ground, Forest’s determination to keep Gibbs-White is expected to increase significantly.

Sources close to the club believe Forest are unwilling to lose both midfield stars during the same transfer window.

Club officials reportedly view Gibbs-White as far more than just one of their best players. He is regarded as a central figure within the dressing room and a key part of the club’s leadership structure. If Anderson departs, retaining the captain could become even more important as Forest look to maintain stability ahead of a challenging campaign.

Forest also remain confident that Gibbs-White will not push for a transfer despite interest from Arsenal and other clubs. Having committed his future to the club by signing a new deal, he is still considered a cornerstone of the long-term project.

For Arsenal, that means any move is likely to be complicated and expensive.

However, with Arteta determined to add more creativity to his squad, Gibbs-White remains a player of significant interest. Whether Forest’s resolve can withstand a serious offer from North London could become one of the summer’s most intriguing transfer stories.
