Arsenal are on the verge of tying Mikel Arteta to a lucrative new contract that would make him the highest-paid manager in the Premier League.

Sources indicate negotiations between the club and the Spaniard have advanced significantly, with growing confidence that a new agreement will be completed before the start of the upcoming campaign.

The Gunners have long viewed securing Arteta’s long-term future as a priority and are now ready to reward the remarkable transformation he has overseen since arriving at the club.

Arteta’s current deal is entering its final year and is worth around £10 million per season. However, Arsenal are prepared to almost double those earnings as part of a new package designed to reflect his status among football’s elite coaches.

The proposed agreement would reportedly be worth close to £20 million annually, equating to around £384,000 per week.

Such a salary would place Arteta at the top of the Premier League managerial earnings table once Pep Guardiola’s departure from Manchester City officially takes effect next month.

The Arsenal hierarchy, led by owners Stan and Josh Kroenke, are understood to be fully supportive of the new deal and see it as recognition of the progress achieved under Arteta’s leadership.

Since taking charge in December 2019, the former Arsenal captain has transformed the club from a side struggling for consistency into one of Europe’s strongest teams.

His work reached a new level last season when he guided Arsenal to their first Premier League title since the move to the Emirates Stadium, ending a wait of more than two decades.

The North London club also enjoyed a memorable run in Europe, reaching the Champions League final before suffering heartbreak in a penalty shootout defeat to Paris Saint-Germain.

Those achievements have only strengthened Arsenal’s belief that Arteta remains the ideal figure to lead the club forward.

Sources suggest there has never been serious concern over reaching an agreement, with both sides aligned on the long-term vision for the future.

The proposed contract is intended not only as a reward for past success but also as a statement of confidence in what Arteta can still achieve.

Arsenal are continuing to invest heavily in their squad and expect another busy transfer window as they seek to build on last season’s achievements.

Working closely with sporting director Andrea Berta, Arteta has helped assemble one of the strongest squads in European football and remains heavily involved in recruitment planning.

A new winger is understood to be among the club’s top priorities, while Aston Villa and England star Morgan Rogers is reportedly admired within the Emirates hierarchy.

For now, however, Arsenal’s focus is on securing the future of the man they believe has restored the club to the summit of English football.

With talks progressing positively and a record-breaking salary package on the table, Arteta appears closer than ever to committing his future to the Gunners.
