Tottenham ready to splash out on Marcus Rashford despite Barcelona dream

Spurs are willing to match Rashford's huge wages, but the England forward still hopes to return to Barcelona.

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make a major financial commitment to sign Marcus Rashford this summer, although convincing the Manchester United forward to move to north London could prove far more difficult than agreeing a deal with his club.

Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United following England’s World Cup campaign after Barcelona opted not to activate the £26 million option to make his loan move permanent. Despite helping the Catalan giants win the La Liga title with 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances, Barcelona allowed the purchase clause to expire, leaving his future unresolved.

Tottenham have emerged as one of the clubs most interested in taking advantage of the situation. Reports suggest the north London side are planning an approach for the England international as they look to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season. Manchester United are believed to have set a £40 million release clause that can be activated by clubs other than Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.

The biggest obstacle has always been Rashford’s salary. His wages are set to rise to around £325,000 per week, placing him among the highest-paid players in English football. However, fresh reports indicate Tottenham are willing to match those demands if it helps secure one of the Premier League’s most proven attacking players.

Even so, Tottenham face a significant challenge because Rashford’s preferred destination remains Barcelona. Sources close to the player continue to insist he is eager to return to the Spanish champions after enjoying a successful season under Hansi Flick. Barcelona also remain interested, but only if Manchester United lower their asking price or agree to another loan with a future obligation to buy.

Barcelona reportedly value Rashford at between £25 million and £30 million, well below United’s current valuation. That difference has stalled negotiations, opening the door for Tottenham and other interested clubs to test United’s resolve.

Manchester United are equally motivated to resolve Rashford’s future before the new campaign. The club have reportedly decided against reintegrating the forward into their first-team plans and are keen to remove one of the largest salaries from the wage bill as part of their ongoing squad rebuild under Michael Carrick.

While Tottenham can offer Premier League football and are prepared to invest heavily, reports suggest Rashford still favours a move abroad if possible. Unless Barcelona can find a way to satisfy Manchester United’s demands, Spurs may have the strongest financial package on the table—but not necessarily the player’s first choice.

The coming weeks are likely to determine whether Tottenham’s ambitious approach can persuade Rashford to reconsider his preferred destination or whether Barcelona eventually find a formula to bring him back to Camp Nou.
