Fenerbahce remain favourites despite Atletico matching Marseille's asking price for the former Manchester United forward.

Mason Greenwood’s future could be decided within days after Atletico Madrid entered the race for the Marseille forward, setting up a battle with Turkish giants Fenerbahce for the former Manchester United attacker’s signature.

According to French outlet L’Equipe, Atletico have matched Marseille’s valuation by submitting a package worth €45 million plus a further €5 million in performance-related bonuses. However, negotiations remain complicated by agent commissions and financial clauses linked to Greenwood’s move to France last year.

Although Atletico’s proposal matches Marseille’s asking price on paper, the Ligue 1 club are carefully assessing which offer delivers the best financial return after deductions.

Fenerbahce are understood to be leading the race despite offering a lower guaranteed fee. Their proposal is believed to be worth around €40 million plus bonuses, but the structure of the deal is viewed more favourably because Greenwood’s representatives have reportedly agreed to waive their commission in exchange for a lucrative long-term contract.

The Turkish club have made Greenwood their marquee transfer target this summer and are pushing hard to finalise an agreement. Reports in France suggest all parties want a decision within the next 24 to 48 hours, with momentum currently swinging towards Fenerbahce.

Atletico, meanwhile, continue to promote the sporting appeal of a move to Madrid, where Greenwood could become part of Diego Simeone’s long-term attacking plans.

The transfer carries added significance for Manchester United, who negotiated a substantial sell-on clause when Greenwood joined Marseille in 2024. Any deal would therefore provide the Premier League club with a sizeable financial windfall.

Marseille are under pressure to generate funds this summer and Greenwood is regarded as one of the club’s most valuable assets. The 24-year-old has enhanced his reputation in France after scoring 48 goals and registering 17 assists in 81 appearances across all competitions since leaving Old Trafford.

While Atletico remain firmly in contention, the latest reports suggest Fenerbahce have edged ahead thanks to the structure of their proposal and the player’s growing interest in a move to Istanbul.

With negotiations entering their final stages, Greenwood’s next destination could soon be confirmed.
