West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has ended speculation over his future by confirming he will remain at the club despite their relegation to the Championship.

The 29-year-old England international had been linked with a return to the Premier League following the Hammers’ drop on the final day of last season. Instead, Bowen has pledged his commitment to helping West Ham secure an immediate return to the top flight.

Bowen, who joined West Ham from Hull City in January 2020, has become one of the club’s most influential players, making 280 appearances and scoring 85 goals. He has worn the captain’s armband since 2024 following Kurt Zouma’s departure and famously scored the dramatic late winner against Fiorentina in the 2023 UEFA Europa Conference League final, ending the club’s 43-year wait for a major trophy.

Although he missed out on Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for this summer’s World Cup, Bowen insists his immediate focus is on West Ham’s promotion challenge.

Speaking to the club’s official website, Bowen said his biggest motivation was helping the Hammers return to where they belong.

“My main motivation is staying and bringing this club back to the Premier League where we belong,” he said.

The forward revealed that discussions with club directors Daniel Kretinsky and Jiri Svarc in Prague played a significant role in convincing him to stay.

Bowen said the ambition outlined by the club’s hierarchy strengthened his belief in the project and made the decision straightforward because of his emotional attachment to West Ham.

He also reflected on his personal journey since arriving in east London more than six years ago, saying he had grown both as a footballer and as a person.

Bowen added that he has always tried to shoulder responsibility during difficult moments rather than avoid criticism, explaining that he sees himself not only as captain but also as a supporter who understands what the fans expect from someone wearing the club’s shirt.

Despite committing to remain for the 2026-27 campaign, Bowen has not signed a contract extension. His current deal at the London Stadium still runs until 2030.

His decision is a major boost for new head coach Nuno Espirito Santo, who confirmed earlier this year that Bowen would be central to his plans as West Ham attempt to bounce back at the first attempt.

Bowen enjoyed another consistent season despite the club’s struggles, starting every Premier League match and scoring nine league goals as West Ham were relegated.

The Hammers will begin their Championship campaign away to fellow relegated side Burnley on 16 August after hosting Portsmouth in the first round of the Carabao Cup a week earlier.
