Inter Milan are preparing to step up their pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones after making progress towards moving Davide Frattesi to Lazio.
The Serie A giants are expected to make a fresh attempt to sign the 25-year-old, who has emerged as one of their leading midfield targets this summer, according to Sky in Italy.
Inter’s renewed interest follows an agreement in principle with Lazio over Frattesi. The Italian midfielder is set to move on an initial loan, with the deal containing an option to buy which can become an obligation if specified conditions are met. Reports also indicate that Inter will retain a significant percentage of any future sale.
Frattesi’s expected departure could now clear the way for Inter to concentrate on bringing Jones to the San Siro.
The Liverpool midfielder has been high on Inter’s transfer list, but negotiations have previously been complicated by a difference in valuation between the two clubs.
That gap remains an important factor as Inter consider their next move.
Jones has entered the final year of his Liverpool contract, potentially placing additional pressure on the Premier League champions to decide whether to cash in this summer or risk his value falling as his deal approaches its conclusion.
Liverpool could, however, be softening their position.
A report from This Is Anfield on Wednesday claimed Liverpool have lowered their asking price ahead of an anticipated new approach from Inter.
Other reports in Italy suggest confidence is growing at Inter that a deal for Jones can eventually be completed.
Jones has spent his entire senior career at Liverpool after progressing through the club’s academy. His technical ability, Premier League experience and versatility across midfield make him an attractive option for Inter.
The key development may now be Frattesi’s departure.
Inter had previously resisted approaches for the Italy international. Lazio reportedly had a €30 million proposal involving a conditional obligation to buy rejected earlier in 2026.
The clubs have now returned to negotiations and found a structure capable of moving the deal forward.
With space potentially opening in Inter’s midfield and Jones entering the final 12 months of his Liverpool contract, the Italian club are expected to push again.
The remaining question is whether Inter can produce an offer that satisfies Liverpool’s valuation and convinces the Reds to sell their academy graduate before the transfer window closes.
