Paul Pogba could be heading for another major career change, with the former Manchester United midfielder’s representatives in discussions with Monaco over an early termination of his contract.
The 33-year-old has entered the final year of the two-season deal he signed when joining the Ligue 1 club in June 2025. Monaco’s official announcement at the time confirmed that Pogba was contracted until June 30, 2027.
According to the latest information from Sky Sports News reporter Dharmesh Sheth, talks are now taking place between Pogba’s representatives and Monaco over bringing that agreement to an end.
The discussions come as Pogba recovers from a hamstring injury. However, talks over his departure have not prevented Monaco and the player’s camp from discussing his rehabilitation.
Positive discussions are understood to be continuing over the possibility of Pogba remaining with Monaco while he completes his recovery.
Reports in France had already suggested that Monaco were preparing to part company with the midfielder. The latest developments indicate the two sides are now working towards reaching an agreement on the terms of his departure.
Pogba’s representatives have also begun exploring where he could play next.
Initial discussions have been held with clubs in Major League Soccer and the Middle East, according to Sky Sports News. Those conversations are expected to gather pace once an agreement terminating his Monaco contract has been finalised.
A move would bring an early end to what was supposed to be Pogba’s opportunity to relaunch his career in France.
The 2018 World Cup winner joined Monaco as a free agent following the conclusion of his doping suspension. His original four-year ban was reduced to 18 months following an appeal.
Pogba had previously agreed to terminate his Juventus contract by mutual consent in November 2024. His move to Monaco the following summer gave him another opportunity to return to top-level football after a lengthy period away from competitive action.
But injuries have again severely disrupted the Frenchman’s career.
Pogba’s first season with Monaco produced only limited playing time, and fresh fitness problems have complicated his attempts to establish himself in the team.
His potential availability is nevertheless likely to attract attention because of his experience and profile. Pogba won four Serie A titles during his first spell at Juventus before returning to Manchester United in 2016 for a then-world-record £89 million transfer fee.
He later helped United win the Europa League and League Cup before leaving Old Trafford in 2022. At international level, Pogba has earned 91 caps for France and played a major role in their 2018 World Cup triumph, scoring in the 4-2 final victory over Croatia.
The immediate priority, however, is resolving his future at Monaco.
Should the two parties agree to terminate his contract, Pogba would be free to negotiate his next move, with MLS and the Middle East currently emerging as possible destinations.
