AC Milan have reached an agreement to sign Paris Saint-Germain striker Goncalo Ramos in what will become the biggest transfer in the club’s history, with the Portugal international choosing a move to the San Siro despite attracting interest from several Premier League clubs.

The Rossoneri have agreed a package worth more than €70 million (£60.4 million), surpassing the previous club-record €50 million they paid Lille for Rafael Leao in 2019. Reports suggest the final value of the deal, including bonuses, could challenge the biggest transfer fees ever paid by a Serie A club.

Ramos had emerged as one of the most sought-after strikers on the market this summer after falling down the pecking order at Paris Saint-Germain. Chelsea, Manchester United, Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United all explored the possibility of signing the 25-year-old after being approached by intermediaries, although none of the Premier League clubs progressed to a formal bid.

Instead, AC Milan moved quickly to secure the striker following the appointment of Ruben Amorim as head coach. The Portuguese manager made strengthening the attack one of his top priorities and personally played a major role in convincing his fellow countryman to make the switch to Italy.

According to reports, Amorim outlined a clear vision for Ramos’ future, explaining that he would become the focal point of Milan’s attack and a key figure in the club’s rebuilding project. Those discussions are understood to have been decisive in persuading the Portugal international to reject interest from England and commit to the Rossoneri.

Club owner Gerry Cardinale also played an active role in completing the transfer, viewing Ramos as a marquee signing capable of signalling Milan’s ambition to return to the top of Italian and European football. The deal represents one of the first major statements of intent since Amorim’s arrival at the club earlier this month.

Ramos joined Paris Saint-Germain from Benfica in 2023 and has scored 45 goals in 128 appearances for the French champions while helping the club win multiple domestic trophies and the UEFA Champions League. Although he often competed for minutes in a star-studded squad, his finishing ability and movement continued to attract interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.

The striker has already completed preliminary medical examinations while away with Portugal at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, allowing the transfer to progress quickly once the clubs reached an agreement. He is expected to sign a long-term contract after the tournament concludes.

For Milan, securing Ramos represents a significant coup in the transfer market. After missing out on Champions League qualification last season, the Italian giants have responded by backing Amorim with a record investment, underlining their determination to build a squad capable of challenging for major honours once again.
