Como are exploring a move for Chelsea striker Liam Delap as Cesc Fabregas looks to strengthen his squad ahead of the Italian club’s historic Champions League campaign.
The Serie A side have made an initial approach over the England forward, with a loan move among the possibilities being considered. Reports in Italy say Delap has emerged as an alternative as Como encounter difficulties in their pursuit of Fiorentina striker Moise Kean.
Chelsea are believed to be willing to consider offers for Delap during the closing weeks of the summer transfer window.
The 23-year-old endured a difficult first full season at Stamford Bridge after joining Chelsea from Ipswich Town for £30 million in June 2025.
Delap struggled to establish himself consistently in Chelsea’s attack, with his future becoming the subject of increasing speculation during the second half of last season. He had previously impressed at Ipswich, scoring 12 Premier League goals during the 2024-25 campaign before Chelsea activated his £30m release clause.
Como’s interest could now offer the striker an opportunity to rebuild his career in Serie A.
Fresh reports on Friday said the Italian club have made an initial approach to Chelsea and have placed Delap high on their shortlist of potential attacking signings.
A loan deal is being considered, although Chelsea’s valuation could become important if negotiations develop towards a permanent transfer. The London club are reported to value Delap at around £50m.
Chelsea are also under little contractual pressure to sell. Delap signed a six-year contract when he arrived from Ipswich, meaning his existing agreement runs until 2031.
Como, however, have shown considerable ambition in the transfer market.
Fabregas guided the club to fourth place in Serie A last season, securing Champions League qualification for the first time in Como’s history.
There is also an increasingly strong transfer relationship between Como and Chelsea.
England defender Trevoh Chalobah completed a move from Stamford Bridge to Como earlier this month. The 27-year-old signed a five-year contract in a deal reportedly worth €30m plus potential add-ons.
That existing relationship could make negotiations over Delap easier if Como decide to push ahead.
Fabregas now wants additional firepower before leading Como into Europe’s elite club competition, with Delap emerging as a serious candidate if their pursuit of Kean cannot be completed.
For Chelsea, the decision will be whether a temporary move provides Delap with the regular football he needs or whether they should instead hold out for a permanent transfer closer to their valuation.
With Como making their interest known and Chelsea prepared to consider Delap’s departure, his future could become one to watch during the final weeks of the transfer window.
