Harry Kane nears Bayern extension in major blow to Manchester United

Financial terms are reportedly close to being settled as Bayern work to finalise the England captain’s new contract.

Harry Kane is closing in on a new contract with Bayern Munich after reportedly reaching broad agreement over the financial terms of an extension.

The development is a significant setback for Manchester United, who have been linked with an ambitious attempt to bring the England captain back to the Premier League.

Kane’s existing Bayern contract is due to expire in June 2027, but Fabrizio Romano reports that negotiations over a longer stay in Bavaria are advancing towards a successful conclusion.

Financial framework agreed with Bayern

According to Romano, discussions involving Bayern, Kane and the striker’s representatives including his father and brother Charlie have been progressing well.

The two sides have almost completed an agreement covering Kane’s salary, leaving the proposed length of the contract and several clauses to be finalised.

Those details could include whether the new deal contains a release clause or gives another club matching rights over a future transfer.

Romano said Kane is “more than tempted” to extend his stay and expects the agreement to be completed relatively soon. However, the contract has not yet been signed and Bayern have made no official announcement.

Manchester United hopes fading

Manchester United have been credited with a strong interest in Kane as they assess potential additions to their attack.

TEAMtalk previously reported that United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe was particularly keen on signing the England international, whose proven Premier League record would make him an attractive option.

Kane scored 213 Premier League goals during his time with Tottenham, leaving him 47 short of Alan Shearer’s all-time record of 260. That target has helped fuel speculation that he could eventually return to England.

However, a new Bayern contract would make a move to Old Trafford considerably more difficult and seemingly confirm where Kane intends to play next season.

There is no indication that United have submitted a formal offer, while their reported interest has not been publicly confirmed by the club.

Kane continues record-breaking Bayern spell

Kane has enjoyed an extraordinary spell in Germany since leaving Tottenham for Bayern in 2023.

The striker recently became the fastest player to reach 100 Bundesliga goals, achieving the landmark in only 98 appearances. The previous record belonged to Dieter Müller, who required 129 matches.

Kane has also spoken positively about remaining at Bayern, indicating that he would be happy to commit his long-term future to the Bundesliga champions.

The remaining contractual details must still be resolved, but all indications point towards Kane signing an extension rather than returning to the Premier League in 2027.
