Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has admitted that he would love to play in La Liga before the end of his career, although he insists he remains happy at the Emirates Stadium.

The 31-year-old Spain international has spent his entire senior career in English football after leaving his homeland to join Blackburn Rovers as a teenager.

Speaking to Spanish newspaper MARCA, Raya said experiencing football in Spain remains one of his ambitions.

“Right now, I’m very happy at Arsenal,” Raya said, before acknowledging that he would welcome an opportunity to play in La Liga in the future.

The goalkeeper described the Spanish top flight as highly competitive and said his nationality made the prospect of playing there particularly appealing.

“I’m Spanish and I’d love to play in Spain,” he added.

Raya not seeking immediate Arsenal exit

Raya’s comments are likely to generate transfer speculation, but there is no indication that he is seeking an immediate departure from Arsenal.

He remains Mikel Arteta’s undisputed first-choice goalkeeper and is under contract with the Gunners until June 2028.

Arsenal also rewarded him with improved financial terms in 2025 following his impressive performances, although the agreement did not extend the length of his contract.

Raya initially joined Arsenal on loan from Brentford in August 2023 before completing a permanent £27million move the following summer.

He has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s leading goalkeepers, winning the Golden Glove in three consecutive seasons.

Raya also helped Arsenal secure their first Premier League title in 22 years during the 2025/26 campaign, keeping 19 clean sheets.

Spain move remains a future ambition

Born in Barcelona, Raya began his development with Catalan club Cornellà but moved to England at the age of 16.

He progressed through the ranks at Blackburn before joining Brentford in 2019 and later moving to Arsenal.

Despite representing Spain internationally, Raya has never played senior club football in his homeland.

His comments therefore appear to reflect a personal career ambition rather than an attempt to force his way out of Arsenal.

With almost two years remaining on his contract, the Gunners are under no immediate pressure to consider a sale.

However, Raya’s public admission could attract attention from leading Spanish clubs if he enters the final year of his Arsenal deal without signing an extension.
