Liverpool are stepping up their interest in Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, with reports suggesting the Reds could be forced to smash the Cherries’ transfer record if they want to secure his signature this summer.

The 22-year-old has emerged as one of the Premier League’s most highly rated young midfielders after an impressive campaign on the south coast. His performances have attracted attention from several top clubs, but Liverpool are believed to be leading the race for his services.

A major factor behind Liverpool’s pursuit is the arrival of manager Andoni Iraola, who worked closely with Scott at Bournemouth and is understood to be keen on a reunion at Anfield. Sporting director Richard Hughes, who originally helped bring Scott to Bournemouth from Bristol City, is also known to be a long-time admirer of the midfielder.

Bournemouth remain determined to keep Scott and are currently trying to negotiate a new contract. However, talks have yet to produce an agreement, leaving the door open for rival clubs to test their resolve.

Any deal is unlikely to come cheap.

Sources indicate Bournemouth value Scott alongside some of England’s most promising young midfielders and would demand a fee significantly higher than their previous record sale. The club’s current benchmark was set when Antoine Semenyo joined Manchester City for around £65 million, meaning any successful bid for Scott would likely need to exceed that figure. Some reports suggest Bournemouth could push for a fee approaching £80 million.

Liverpool’s interest has intensified amid uncertainty surrounding several midfield positions. The club continue to assess options ahead of a significant summer rebuild, with Scott viewed as an attractive target because of his versatility, technical ability and potential for further development.

Manchester United and Arsenal have also monitored Scott’s progress, but Liverpool’s existing relationships with both the player and his former manager could prove decisive if negotiations accelerate.

Scott joined Bournemouth from Bristol City in 2023 and has since established himself as one of the Premier League’s brightest young talents. The Guernsey-born midfielder has made more than 75 league appearances for the Cherries and was recently involved with England’s senior squad ahead of the World Cup.

While Bournemouth remain hopeful of retaining him, growing interest from Anfield means Scott’s future is shaping up to be one of the biggest transfer stories of the summer.
