Manchester United are weighing up a move for West Ham United winger Crysencio Summerville as uncertainty continues to surround Marcus Rashford’s future at Old Trafford.
According to reports, the Netherlands international has emerged as a serious transfer target for United, who are preparing for the possibility of Rashford leaving permanently this summer after his proposed move to Barcelona stalled.
Rashford had been expected to remain at the Camp Nou following an impressive loan spell in Spain, but Barcelona’s decision to pursue Anthony Gordon instead has complicated those plans. The Catalan club allowed the deadline to activate Rashford’s £26 million purchase option to pass, leaving the England forward set to return to Manchester.
United are now reportedly willing to listen to offers for the 28-year-old and hope his performances at the 2026 World Cup can attract fresh interest from potential buyers.
Any departure would leave the club in need of reinforcements on the left wing, and Summerville has moved firmly into view.
The former Leeds United star is expected to leave West Ham following the club’s relegation from the Premier League. Despite a difficult season in east London, the 24-year-old still managed seven goals and five assists in all competitions and remains highly regarded by several top-flight clubs.
Tottenham Hotspur have previously been linked with the winger, but Manchester United are now believed to be monitoring the situation closely.
Summerville further enhanced his reputation on the international stage when he scored the Netherlands’ second goal in their 2-2 World Cup draw with Japan, producing a superb curling finish on his tournament debut.
His direct style of play, pace and ability to beat defenders have long been among his biggest strengths.
“Forward players need this confidence, and he has that one-v-one ability. When he can use it in these spaces, he’s almost unstoppable,” West Ham manager Nuno Espirito Santo said earlier this year.
United’s recruitment team are believed to view Summerville as the type of player who can immediately adapt to the demands of the Premier League. Club executives have repeatedly stressed the importance of signing players capable of making an instant impact rather than requiring lengthy adjustment periods.
At present, Matheus Cunha and Patrick Dorgu are among the few natural options available on the left side of United’s attack. While Dorgu has impressed and could be pushed further forward, Cunha’s versatility means he may be required in several different positions.
That has increased the need for another specialist wide player.
West Ham are understood to value Summerville at around £50 million, although United may attempt to negotiate a lower fee given the Hammers’ relegation and the player’s desire to remain in the Premier League.
The Dutchman is not the only West Ham player attracting interest from Old Trafford.
United have also been heavily linked with midfielder Mateus Fernandes, who is reportedly open to joining the club. However, West Ham’s £85 million asking price remains a significant obstacle despite interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
For United, Summerville represents the kind of signing that fits their current transfer strategy — a proven Premier League performer with room for further development and potential resale value.
It may not generate the headlines of a superstar arrival, but if Summerville can replicate the impact made by players such as Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo last season, many United supporters would view the deal as smart business.
With Rashford’s future still unresolved, the coming weeks could prove crucial in determining whether the Dutch winger becomes the latest addition to Manchester United’s rebuilding project.
