Real Madrid have confirmed that teenage sensation Franco Mastantuono will spend the 2026-27 season on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina.
The 18-year-old Argentine winger has completed a temporary move to Florence after struggling to establish himself during his debut season at the Santiago Bernabéu. The loan agreement runs until 30 June 2027 and does not include an option for Fiorentina to make the move permanent.
Mastantuono arrived at Real Madrid in June 2025 after the Spanish giants beat Paris Saint-Germain to his signature, signing the youngster on a six-year contract following his breakthrough at River Plate. He was regarded as one of the world’s brightest young prospects when he made the move to Spain.
Despite featuring in 35 matches across all competitions last season, the Argentine found regular opportunities difficult to come by as the campaign progressed. He scored three goals, but struggled to cement a place in the starting line-up, ultimately missing out on Argentina’s squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Speaking after completing the move, Mastantuono said:
“It’s a special day for me. I was excited about joining the club… It’s a team with a lot of history.”
Real Madrid believe the move will provide the teenager with the consistent first-team football needed to continue his development before returning to the Spanish capital next summer. Fiorentina are expected to give him a prominent attacking role as they prepare for the new Serie A campaign.
Mastantuono first caught the attention of Europe’s elite during his rise at River Plate, where he became one of the youngest players to debut for the club before making history as Argentina’s youngest-ever senior international in June 2025.
His temporary departure also comes as Real Madrid continue reshaping their squad under Jose Mourinho following the arrivals of several high-profile signings this summer, including Yan Diomande.
The Spanish giants remain convinced Mastantuono has a long-term future at the Bernabéu, with the loan spell viewed as an opportunity for the youngster to gain valuable experience in one of Europe’s top leagues before returning to compete for a first-team place.
