Juventus have agreed a deal with Tottenham Hotspur to sign goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario on an initial season-long loan.
The agreement includes an option allowing the Serie A giants to make the transfer permanent for £8.5 million (€10m) next summer, according to Sky Sports News.
The transfer is now subject to Vicario completing his medical and finalising personal terms. If those formalities are completed, the 29-year-old will return to Italy after three seasons in the Premier League.
Vicario’s departure has been on the cards for several months after he lost his position as Tottenham’s first-choice goalkeeper to Antonin Kinsky.
Sky Sports News reported in June that the Italy international was expected to leave north London, with Kinsky emerging as Spurs’ preferred goalkeeper.
The Guardian reports that Vicario lost his starting place under Roberto De Zerbi, while Tottenham are now prepared to allow him to rebuild his career in Serie A.
Juventus had also been pursuing Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez but have now switched their attention to Vicario.
Their decision has significant implications for Martinez. With Juventus filling their goalkeeping position, the Argentina international will either remain at Villa Park or require another destination if he is to leave Aston Villa before the transfer window closes.
Villa’s own goalkeeping situation has become increasingly intriguing after they agreed a deal with Parma for Japan international Zion Suzuki. The proposed transfer is worth £25.6m plus £4.28m in potential add-ons, according to The Times.
For Vicario, Juventus offer an opportunity to return to his homeland and potentially establish himself with one of Italy’s biggest clubs.
The goalkeeper joined Tottenham from Empoli in 2023 for around £17m and quickly became an important member of the side. He has made almost 120 appearances for Spurs and was part of the team that won the Europa League in 2025.
His situation subsequently changed, with Kinsky moving ahead of him in the goalkeeping hierarchy.
Juventus have now provided an escape route, although the structure of the agreement means his permanent future will not necessarily be decided until next summer.
Should the medical proceed as planned, Vicario will spend the 2026/27 campaign in Turin before Juventus decide whether to activate their £8.5m purchase option.
