Liverpool have reportedly taken a significant step towards signing Paris Saint-Germain teenager Ibrahim Mbaye after agreeing personal terms with the highly-rated winger.

The 18-year-old has agreed terms on a five-year contract at Anfield after Liverpool moved ahead of Bayer Leverkusen in the race for his signature, according to reports originating from French outlet RMC Sport.

An agreement with the player does not mean the transfer is complete, however. Liverpool must still reach a deal with PSG before Mbaye can make the switch to the Premier League.

The French champions are understood to value their academy graduate highly. Reports this summer have suggested PSG could demand around €50 million for the youngster.

Liverpool’s interest in Mbaye has been developing for several weeks.

The club explored a move earlier this month as they searched for another winger capable of fitting into new manager Andoni Iraola’s system. Liverpool are looking to build a group of wide players that combines established quality with younger talent capable of developing at Anfield.

Mbaye fits firmly into the second category.

He progressed through PSG’s academy after joining the club’s youth system in 2018 and has gradually been introduced into Luis Enrique’s senior squad.

The Senegal international enjoyed his breakthrough campaign during 2025/26, scoring three goals and providing two assists in 29 appearances, according to Liverpool’s own media-watch report. He also gained Champions League experience during the campaign.

His performances have attracted attention from several European clubs, but Liverpool now appear to have gained an important advantage by securing an agreement with the player.

Bayer Leverkusen had also been pursuing Mbaye and could potentially have offered the teenager a clearer route to regular first-team football. The prospect of joining Liverpool and playing in the Premier League appears to have proved more attractive.

Mbaye is not the only PSG winger on Liverpool’s radar.

The Reds have also pursued France international Bradley Barcola during the summer, although PSG’s valuation of the 23-year-old has complicated negotiations. Sky Sports reported earlier this month that signing Mbaye alongside a more experienced winger remained a possibility.

The futures of both players have come under increased scrutiny after they were left out of PSG’s squad for the recent Trophée des Champions match against Lens.

For Mbaye, the immediate issue is whether Liverpool and PSG can now agree a transfer fee.

Personal terms appear to have cleared one major hurdle. If Liverpool can reach an agreement with the European champions, one of France’s most promising young attackers could be heading to Anfield on a long-term deal.
