Benoit Badiashile has completed a season-long loan move from Chelsea to Napoli, with the Serie A champions securing an option to sign the French defender permanently.
Chelsea confirmed the transfer on Saturday, bringing a temporary end to Badiashile’s three-and-a-half-year spell at Stamford Bridge. The 25-year-old has made 71 appearances in all competitions since arriving from Monaco in January 2023.
Napoli will pay a loan fee of around £2.5 million, which could rise to approximately £3.4 million through add-ons. The Italian club also has an option to buy the centre-back for around £23 million.
Chelsea could bank more than £26m
If Napoli exercise their purchase option, Chelsea could ultimately receive more than £26 million from the overall agreement, depending on which bonuses are triggered.
That would still fall short of Chelsea’s valuation during the summer transfer window, with the Blues understood to have valued Badiashile at around £30 million.
The permanent element of the agreement is an option rather than an obligation, meaning Napoli are not currently committed to buying the defender when his loan expires.
Badiashile remains protected by a long-term Chelsea contract, with four years remaining on his deal.
Badiashile heads to Serie A
The France international joined Chelsea from Monaco in January 2023. He was handed a seven-and-a-half-year contract when he arrived in west London in a deal reported at the time to be worth £32.7 million.
He has since accumulated 71 appearances for Chelsea across all competitions and was part of the squads that won the UEFA Conference League in 2025 and the FIFA Club World Cup later that year.
Chelsea’s official announcement described the move as a season-long loan and wished the defender well during his time in Naples.
