Liverpool reject Inter Milan bid as Curtis Jones future takes fresh twist

The Reds have made it clear they will not sell the England midfielder on the cheap despite his contract entering its final year.

Curtis Jones is expected to remain at Liverpool this summer after the club rejected Inter Milan’s latest attempt to sign the midfielder.

The Serie A champions have maintained a long-standing interest in the England international and renewed their pursuit during the current transfer window. However, Liverpool have made it clear they will not entertain offers significantly below their valuation of the player.

Inter initially made enquiries during the January transfer window and returned this month hoping to strike a deal for the 25-year-old. Their latest proposal, believed to be worth around £20 million, was swiftly dismissed by Liverpool officials.

The Reds have placed a value of approximately £35 million on Jones and believe that figure accurately reflects his quality, experience and contribution to the club.

Liverpool’s stance is strengthened by Jones’ record at Anfield. A product of the club’s academy, he has made 228 appearances for his boyhood side, won seven major trophies and earned six senior England caps.

Despite entering the final year of his contract, Liverpool are under no immediate pressure to sell and remain confident about his importance to the squad.

Jones endured a frustrating campaign last season due to limited playing time, although his versatility saw him deployed in multiple positions, including right-back and central midfield. He also scored Liverpool’s final goal under former manager Arne Slot during a 1-1 draw against Brentford that secured Champions League qualification.

With new head coach Andoni Iraola now in charge, Liverpool believe Jones will have fresh opportunities to establish himself as a regular starter.

The midfielder is not involved in international football this summer and is expected to play a prominent role during Liverpool’s pre-season preparations in the United States. Those sessions will provide him with an early opportunity to impress Iraola and strengthen his position within the squad.

Liverpool have not ruled out opening discussions over a new contract later this year, although negotiations are not currently considered a priority.

Jones is one of several senior players approaching the final year of their agreements. Club captain Virgil van Dijk, goalkeeper Alisson Becker, Joe Gomez and Harvey Elliott are among those whose futures will require attention in the coming months.

For now, however, Liverpool’s focus remains on strengthening the squad rather than sanctioning key departures.

The club continues to pursue attacking reinforcements and remains in discussions with RB Leipzig over highly-rated winger Yan Diomande after an opening £86 million offer was rejected.

As things stand, Jones remains firmly part of Liverpool’s plans, and Inter Milan’s hopes of securing a bargain deal appear to have been firmly shut down.
