Manchester United have intensified their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha, with director of recruitment Christopher Vivell taking a central role in discussions as the club looks to strengthen its midfield ahead of the new season.
The Red Devils have identified Nmecha as one of their priority targets after his impressive performances for Borussia Dortmund and Germany. According to reports from Germany, Vivell remains in regular contact with the player’s representatives as United explore the possibility of bringing the 25-year-old back to the Premier League.
Nmecha has enhanced his reputation during the World Cup, contributing a goal and an assist in Germany’s 7-1 victory over Curacao before adding another assist in the win over Ivory Coast. His displays have attracted interest from several European heavyweights, including Liverpool, Manchester City and Real Madrid, increasing competition for his signature.
Borussia Dortmund remain reluctant to lose one of their key midfielders and are expected to demand a substantial fee before entering negotiations. Reports suggest it could take an offer of around £52 million (€60 million), while some sources in Germany claim Dortmund would ideally prefer a much higher figure given the growing number of interested clubs.

Despite the interest, Nmecha is understood to be content at Dortmund and is currently focused on Germany’s World Cup campaign. A return to the Premier League is viewed as a realistic option in the future, but there has been no indication that the midfielder is pushing for an immediate transfer.
Manchester United’s interest comes as Michael Carrick continues reshaping his midfield following Casemiro’s departure. The club have already agreed a deal to sign Atalanta midfielder Ederson, but United are determined to recruit another central midfielder before the transfer window closes.
Several alternative targets have become increasingly difficult to secure. Nottingham Forest’s Elliot Anderson is edging closer to a record-breaking move to Manchester City, while Tottenham Hotspur have intensified their pursuit of West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes. Crystal Palace’s Adam Wharton and Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni also remain on United’s shortlist, but both deals are expected to prove expensive and complicated.
Nmecha’s profile makes him an attractive option. A graduate of Manchester City’s academy, he already has experience of English football before establishing himself in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg and later Borussia Dortmund. His physical presence, technical ability and versatility have helped him develop into one of Germany’s most complete midfielders.
Vivell’s involvement could also prove significant. Having previously worked extensively in German football, United’s recruitment chief possesses strong relationships within the Bundesliga and is believed to have played a leading role in identifying Nmecha as a suitable addition to Carrick’s squad.
While Manchester United have yet to submit a formal offer, discussions are continuing behind the scenes. With Dortmund determined to retain the midfielder and several elite clubs monitoring the situation, United know they may need to move quickly if they want to secure one of Germany’s standout performers before the new season begins.
