Andre Onana is on the verge of leaving Manchester United once again after Fabrizio Romano confirmed that Trabzonspor have reached a verbal agreement to re-sign the Cameroon international on loan.
The 30-year-old goalkeeper is no longer part of Manchester United’s plans following the arrival of Belgian shot-stopper Senne Lammens, who established himself as the club’s first-choice goalkeeper during the 2025/26 season. Romano reported that Trabzonspor have agreed a new loan deal with United, with only the final paperwork remaining before the transfer is completed.
Onana spent last season on loan with the Turkish club, where he rebuilt his reputation after an inconsistent spell at Old Trafford. He made 30 appearances in all competitions and helped Trabzonspor secure a strong domestic campaign, convincing the club to pursue another temporary deal.
Manchester United signed Onana from Inter Milan in 2023 to replace David de Gea, but his time in England never fully lived up to expectations. Although his first season showed signs of improvement after a difficult start, a series of costly mistakes during his second campaign ultimately led the club to seek a new first-choice goalkeeper.

The signing of Lammens last summer effectively ended Onana’s prospects of reclaiming the number one jersey. While reports suggested the former Ajax goalkeeper hoped to return and compete for his place, United’s hierarchy opted to continue with Lammens as the long-term solution between the posts.
Trabzonspor are expected to pay a loan fee as part of the new agreement, with negotiations over the final details nearing completion. Romano described the move as a “here we go”, indicating the transfer is effectively complete pending official confirmation.
The goalkeeper’s departure is expected to create additional room in Manchester United’s squad as Michael Carrick continues reshaping the team ahead of the new campaign. Midfield remains one of the club’s biggest priorities, with United already completing a move for Atalanta’s Ederson while continuing to explore further additions.
One player admired by United is Real Madrid midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni, although Romano believes a deal remains difficult at this stage. According to the Italian transfer expert, United appreciate the France international’s qualities, but two major obstacles remain.
The first is Tchouameni’s salary, which is significantly higher than United are currently prepared to offer. The second is Real Madrid’s stance, with the Spanish giants yet to indicate any willingness to sell the midfielder despite recent speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.
Unless Real Madrid change their position later in the transfer window, United are expected to continue focusing on alternative midfield targets while monitoring Tchouameni’s situation.
For Onana, meanwhile, another season in Turkey now appears imminent. The move offers the experienced goalkeeper regular first-team football, while Manchester United move a step closer to completing another part of Carrick’s squad overhaul ahead of the 2026/27 season.
