Alex Runarsson, the Icelandic goal-minder reported to be on his way to Arsenal, was forced to delete some of his old tweets calling Arsene Wenger a “French f*** and dumb” ahead of his proposed transfer.
Runarsson is said to be on his way to the gunners after the departure of Emi Martinez.
His potential move looked in jeopardy however, after social media sleuths unearthed tweets, originally written in Icelandic, in which the goalie was scathing in his criticism of Wenger.
The first, from April 21, 2011 said: “Hell, this Wenger guy is stupid.”
Another, posted on June 15 by the apparently-frustrated Gooner, read: “Arsene Wenger is a little too stupid #frenchf***.”
And a third, from August 21 that year, reads: “Arsene Wenger is definitely the dumbest man on this planet #frenchf***.”
Dijon have reportedly set a price tag of just £1.5million for Runarsson, who was an unused substitute when Iceland lost to England in the UEFA Nations League earlier this month.
