Arne Slot has reportedly turned down the chance to make an immediate return to Premier League management less than a week after leaving Liverpool.
The Dutch coach has rejected an approach from Fulham, who are searching for a successor to Marco Silva following the Portuguese manager’s departure to Benfica. Fulham viewed Slot as a potential candidate for the vacancy, but the former Liverpool boss is understood to have no interest in taking over at Craven Cottage.
Slot’s decision comes just days after his shock exit from Liverpool. The 47-year-old was dismissed after a disappointing second season at Anfield, despite having guided the club to the Premier League title during his first campaign in charge.
Fulham’s search for a new manager has intensified following Silva’s move to Benfica. The West London club are also considering other candidates, including Ipswich Town manager Kieran McKenna, while former Brentford and Tottenham boss Thomas Frank has also been linked with the role. However, Frank has publicly stated that he does not intend to return to management this summer.
Rather than rushing back into club football, Slot appears prepared to wait for the right opportunity. Reports in the Netherlands suggest international management could be a realistic option, with the Dutch national team viewed as a possible future destination should Ronald Koeman step down after the 2026 World Cup.
Dutch journalist Marcel van der Kraan believes Slot would be a natural fit for the national team setup due to his attacking philosophy and commitment to the traditional Dutch style of football.
Despite winning 66 of his 113 matches in charge of Liverpool, Slot’s second season fell well below expectations. The Reds finished fifth in the Premier League and secured Champions League qualification but failed to win a trophy despite significant investment in the transfer market.
While links to clubs across Europe continue to emerge, Slot’s rejection of Fulham suggests he is in no hurry to jump back into management. For now, the former Feyenoord boss appears content to take his time before deciding on the next chapter of his career.
