Chelsea are reportedly open to signing Marcus Rashford this summer, but only under specific circumstances as Manchester United step up efforts to find a new club for the England international.
Rashford’s future has been thrown into fresh doubt after Barcelona decided against activating the option to make his loan move permanent.
The 28-year-old spent last season at the Camp Nou, where he helped Hansi Flick’s side retain the La Liga title. Despite his contributions, Barcelona have opted not to trigger the £26 million purchase clause in the agreement.

The decision means Rashford is expected to return to Manchester United, although his long-term future at Old Trafford remains uncertain.
According to reports, United are determined to secure a permanent exit for the forward and have instructed intermediaries to explore potential destinations across Europe.
Barcelona have not completely closed the door on Rashford and are reportedly interested in negotiating another loan arrangement. However, Manchester United’s preference is to sell the player outright rather than sanction another temporary move.
As United search for alternatives, Chelsea have emerged as one of the clubs informed of Rashford’s availability.
Sources indicate the Blues are willing to consider a deal, but only if it is structured as a loan move.
Chelsea’s hierarchy are understood to be reluctant to commit significant funds towards a permanent transfer, particularly given Rashford’s reported £325,000-a-week wages. A loan agreement would therefore represent a more attractive option for the Stamford Bridge club.
The London side’s cautious stance could complicate matters for Manchester United, who are hoping to generate a transfer fee from the sale.
Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole believes Rashford would be a strong addition to Chelsea if the financial terms can be made to work.
Cole praised the England forward’s ability and believes his spell in Spain helped rebuild confidence after a difficult period in Manchester.
The former Blues star also suggested Rashford still has room to elevate his performances further and could thrive in the right environment.
For now, Manchester United face a crucial decision.
With Barcelona unwilling to buy, Chelsea interested only in a loan and other clubs assessing their options, the Red Devils must determine whether to compromise on their demands or continue searching for a buyer prepared to meet their valuation.
One thing appears certain: Rashford’s future remains one of the biggest unresolved transfer stories of the summer.
