Barcelona have reportedly secured the approval of Joao Pedro over a potential move to Spain, but convincing Chelsea to part with one of their most important players could prove a far more difficult challenge.

The Brazilian forward has emerged as a transfer target for the La Liga champions as they continue searching for attacking reinforcements ahead of the new season.

Barcelona’s pursuit comes amid growing uncertainty over a deal for Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez. Reports suggest the Catalan club are unwilling to increase their €100 million (£86m) valuation for the Argentina international, forcing them to assess alternative options.

According to reports in Spain, Joao Pedro has already indicated he would be open to joining Barcelona should the clubs manage to reach an agreement.

The 24-year-old enjoyed an outstanding campaign at Stamford Bridge despite Chelsea enduring a disappointing season. Pedro contributed 23 goals and six assists in 53 appearances across all competitions, establishing himself as one of the club’s standout performers.

Chelsea endured a turbulent campaign that saw managerial changes and a tenth-place Premier League finish, leaving them without European football next season.

Despite those struggles, the London club have no intention of allowing Pedro to leave.

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano reports that Chelsea continue to view the Brazil international as a key component of their long-term plans and have communicated their desire to keep him at Stamford Bridge.

Romano explained that Barcelona sporting director Deco has admired Pedro for some time, dating back to his days at Brighton. However, Chelsea moved quickly to secure the forward’s signature and remain determined to build their future around him.

The club’s stance has reportedly remained unchanged throughout the summer despite growing interest from abroad.

Further strengthening Chelsea’s position, journalist Ben Jacobs has claimed the club are effectively treating Pedro as untouchable.

According to Jacobs, Chelsea are not prepared to negotiate his departure under any circumstances during this transfer window, regardless of the size of any offer submitted.

That position would present a major obstacle for Barcelona, who are already facing financial limitations as they attempt to strengthen several areas of their squad.

While the player may be attracted by the prospect of moving to the Camp Nou, any transfer appears highly unlikely unless Chelsea dramatically alter their current position.

For now, Barcelona’s interest remains genuine, but the Spanish giants face the daunting task of persuading a club that has repeatedly made clear it has no intention of selling one of its most valuable assets.

Unless there is a significant change behind the scenes, Joao Pedro looks set to remain at Chelsea despite growing attention from Spain.
