Marcus Rashford’s search for a new club has suffered another setback after Bayern Munich reportedly moved to secure the signing of PSV Eindhoven star Ismael Saibari, closing off what had emerged as a potential escape route for the Manchester United forward.

The England international’s future remains one of the biggest unresolved issues of the summer transfer window following Barcelona’s decision not to activate the £26 million option to make his move permanent.

Rashford enjoyed a successful spell in Spain last season, rediscovering his best form as Barcelona retained their La Liga crown. The 28-year-old contributed 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 appearances across all competitions and had hoped his performances would earn him a long-term future at the Camp Nou.

However, Barcelona’s transfer priorities shifted following the arrival of Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United, leaving Rashford facing an uncertain future once again.

Bayern Munich quickly emerged as a possible destination.

Reports suggested Vincent Kompany’s side had made enquiries about the Manchester United star as they explored options to strengthen their attacking ranks ahead of the new season.

But those hopes now appear to have faded.

The Bundesliga champions are understood to have reached an agreement with PSV Eindhoven for Morocco international Ismael Saibari in a deal worth around €55 million.

Saibari has enhanced his growing reputation at the 2026 FIFA World Cup, including scoring against Brazil in Morocco’s opening group match, and Bayern now appear focused on completing that transfer rather than pursuing Rashford.

The development leaves the England forward with fewer obvious options as he attempts to resolve his future.

Despite Barcelona’s decision not to sign him permanently, reports in Spain claim Rashford remains determined to return to the Catalan giants.

According to Marca, the forward has received positive signals from manager Hansi Flick and believes another move to Barcelona remains possible, either through a permanent transfer or another loan arrangement.

Manchester United, however, would prefer a permanent sale.

The forward remains under contract at Old Trafford until 2028, and club officials are understood to be keen to avoid another temporary departure as they continue reshaping the squad.

Yet an increasingly intriguing alternative has also emerged.

Reports suggest Rashford has begun considering the possibility of returning to Manchester United and restarting his career at the club following the managerial changes that have taken place over the past year.

His relationship with former boss Ruben Amorim deteriorated before he left on loan, ultimately leading to his departure from the first-team picture.

But with Amorim dismissed in January and Michael Carrick now in charge on a permanent basis, circumstances have changed significantly.

Sources claim Rashford has spoken with several Manchester United teammates about a possible return and has received encouraging feedback from members of the squad.

The prospect of rebuilding his career at Old Trafford may now be more realistic than it appeared just a few months ago.

For now, Rashford remains focused on England’s World Cup campaign, but his club future is likely to dominate headlines throughout the remainder of the summer.

With Bayern seemingly out of the picture and Barcelona’s intentions still unclear, the possibility of a Manchester United comeback can no longer be ruled out.

What once appeared to be the end of Rashford’s Old Trafford story may yet prove to be the beginning of an unexpected new chapter.
