Liverpool remain confident they can land RB Leipzig winger Yan Diomande this summer, despite the Bundesliga club’s determination to keep hold of one of Europe’s most exciting young talents.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has emerged as Liverpool’s preferred long-term replacement for Mohamed Salah following the Egyptian’s departure at the end of the 2025-26 season. However, negotiations have proven difficult after Leipzig rejected an opening offer worth €100 million (£87 million).
Reports in Germany suggest Leipzig have no intention of selling Diomande unless they receive a significantly improved proposal. The winger remains under a long-term contract and the club are even exploring the possibility of offering him improved terms in an effort to keep him for at least another season.
Despite that stance, Liverpool are expected to submit a fresh bid in the coming days. Sources close to the negotiations indicate the Reds believe they have a major advantage: the player himself is understood to be attracted by the prospect of moving to Anfield.
Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool have invested considerable effort behind the scenes, maintaining close contact with Diomande’s representatives and working to convince the teenager that Anfield is the ideal next step in his career.
Liverpool’s confidence has also been boosted by reports that Paris Saint-Germain have cooled their interest, leaving the Premier League club in pole position to secure the winger’s signature.
Diomande enjoyed a breakthrough campaign with Leipzig after arriving from Spanish side Leganes in 2025. He scored 12 Bundesliga goals and was named Bundesliga Rookie of the Season, while his performances for Ivory Coast at the World Cup have further enhanced his reputation.
Leipzig are believed to value the winger at well over €100 million, with some reports suggesting it could take an offer in excess of €130 million before the German club considers a sale.
While Liverpool continue to pursue Diomande, they are also monitoring alternative options. Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola remains on their shortlist should negotiations with Leipzig fail to produce a breakthrough.
For now, Liverpool’s strategy is clear: return with an improved offer, maintain their strong relationship with the player and hope that Diomande’s desire to move eventually persuades Leipzig to negotiate.
