Manchester United have reportedly reached a firm decision on Marcus Rashford’s future, with the club determined to complete a permanent transfer before the forward rejoins for pre-season.
The England international enjoyed an impressive loan spell at Barcelona last season, scoring 14 goals and providing 14 assists as Hansi Flick’s side successfully defended the La Liga title. Rashford openly expressed his desire to remain in Spain, but Barcelona allowed their €30 million (£26m) purchase option to expire before instead strengthening with the signing of Anthony Gordon.
That decision has left Rashford facing an uncertain future after the World Cup, although Manchester United appear to have made their position clear.

According to Manchester Evening News reporter Samuel Luckhurst, the Red Devils want Rashford’s future resolved before the squad departs for its pre-season training camp in Ireland on August 8. The club are also said to have ruled out another temporary move, insisting they will only consider permanent offers for the 28-year-old.
United’s stance comes despite recent suggestions that Rashford could be reintegrated into Michael Carrick’s squad following the collapse of a permanent switch to Barcelona.
Reports indicate the club would still welcome a sale to reduce their wage bill, but a lack of concrete interest means Rashford is currently expected to report back for pre-season after taking his mandatory three-week break following England’s World Cup campaign.
Barcelona’s decision to move for Gordon rather than activate Rashford’s buy clause effectively ended hopes of an immediate return to the Camp Nou, despite the forward’s strong performances in Spain.
Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with Rashford in recent weeks, but reports suggest the England international would prefer to join a club competing in the UEFA Champions League, potentially complicating any move to north London.
Should an interested club emerge, Rashford is believed to be available for around £40 million through a release clause that can be activated by clubs other than Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City.
For now, Manchester United’s priority is to secure a permanent exit before the new season gets underway, with the club eager to avoid another temporary arrangement as they continue reshaping their squad ahead of the 2026-27 campaign.
