Manchester United set for Garnacho windfall as Chelsea name transfer asking prices

Fabrizio Romano says Chelsea have placed different valuations on Alejandro Garnacho depending on the buyer, handing Manchester United a potential financial boost through a sell-on clause.

Manchester United could be in line for an unexpected financial bonus this summer after Chelsea made Alejandro Garnacho available for transfer just one year after signing him from the Red Devils.

The Argentina international joined Chelsea in a £40 million move last summer after a protracted transfer saga that was only completed late in the window. As part of the agreement, Manchester United negotiated a 10 per cent sell-on clause, meaning they stand to benefit financially from any future permanent sale.

According to transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano, Chelsea have now settled on two different asking prices depending on where Garnacho’s next destination lies.

Premier League clubs will have to pay £45 million to sign the winger, while overseas teams have been quoted a fee of €50 million, which is approximately £42.6 million.

Should Chelsea receive their full domestic asking price, Manchester United would collect around £4.5 million through the sell-on clause. If Garnacho moves abroad for €50 million, United would receive approximately £4.26 million, based on current exchange rates.

Romano also reported that Chelsea are only prepared to sanction a permanent transfer and are actively working with Garnacho’s representatives to secure a move away from Stamford Bridge. The winger is currently not training under new head coach Xabi Alonso while discussions over his future continue.

Interest in the 22-year-old is beginning to gather across Europe.

Italian clubs are among the strongest contenders, with Napoli retaining a long-standing interest after previously attempting to sign Garnacho during his time at Manchester United. AS Roma have also emerged as admirers, although their preference is an initial loan deal. Chelsea, however, remain firm that they will only consider permanent offers.

Romano reports that Garnacho would welcome the opportunity to join Roma, but Chelsea’s insistence on a permanent transfer currently complicates that possibility.

There is also growing interest from the Saudi Pro League, with reports suggesting the Argentine international would not rule out a move to the Middle East despite still being in the early stages of his career.

For Manchester United, the situation is one they will watch closely. While Garnacho’s move to Chelsea did not work out as either party had hoped, a swift transfer elsewhere could still deliver a welcome multi-million-pound windfall to Old Trafford.
