Real Madrid are closing in on the signing of Yan Diomande after agreeing personal terms with the RB Leipzig winger, leaving the Spanish giants firmly in pole position to land one of world football’s brightest young talents.
The 19-year-old Ivory Coast international has attracted interest from several of Europe’s biggest clubs following a sensational breakthrough campaign in Germany, but Real Madrid have now moved ahead after Paris Saint-Germain formally withdrew from the bidding.
Liverpool were among the first clubs to pursue Diomande earlier in the summer and saw an opening bid worth around £69 million rejected by Leipzig. The Premier League champions later shifted their focus to alternative attacking targets, leaving PSG and Real Madrid to battle for his signature.
PSG had been regarded as favourites for much of the transfer window and reportedly submitted a final offer worth £102.5 million before deciding to walk away from negotiations. The French champions released a strongly worded statement explaining they would not compromise their financial principles by matching Leipzig’s valuation and the player’s wage demands.
Real Madrid quickly seized the opportunity and have now agreed personal terms with Diomande. The proposed contract is understood to mirror the performance-based structure used in Jude Bellingham’s deal, with salary increases linked to appearances and achievements over the course of the agreement.
Negotiations between Real Madrid and RB Leipzig are continuing, with the Spanish club expected to pay more than €100 million to secure the teenager’s signature. Leipzig rejected an initial bid but are aware that interest from Europe’s elite has made it increasingly difficult to keep hold of their prized asset.
Sources close to the negotiations say Real Madrid’s recruitment team, led by José Ángel Sánchez and chief scout Juni Calafat, have tracked Diomande’s progress for around five years. Club officials believe his outstanding performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup merely confirmed a talent they had already identified long before his emergence on the global stage.
Diomande enjoyed a remarkable first season at Leipzig after joining from Spanish side Leganés in 2025. He scored 12 Bundesliga goals and provided eight assists, earning the league’s Young Player of the Season award and establishing himself as one of Europe’s most exciting prospects.
The winger’s rise has been extraordinary. After leaving Ivory Coast to continue his development in the United States, he moved to Leganés before Leipzig activated his release clause just a year later. Now, another meteoric step in his career appears imminent as Real Madrid prepare to complete one of the biggest transfers of the summer.
