Tottenham Hotspur have reignited their pursuit of Manchester City winger Savinho as Roberto De Zerbi looks to strengthen his attack before the new Premier League season.
The North London club have revived their interest in the 22-year-old Brazil international after an earlier attempt to sign him was blocked by then-City manager Pep Guardiola last summer. This time, however, there is growing optimism that a deal can be completed.
Savinho is understood to be keen on securing more regular first-team football after finding opportunities limited during his second season at the Etihad Stadium.
Despite remaining highly rated by Manchester City, injuries and fierce competition from Rayan Cherki and Antoine Semenyo restricted the winger to just 14 starts across all competitions last season.
The Brazilian joined City from sister club Troyes in 2024 after an impressive loan spell at Girona and later signed a contract extension keeping him at the club until 2031. In his first campaign, he made 48 appearances in all competitions and scored three goals before slipping down the pecking order last season.
Tottenham are now working on a package worth around £60 million, a figure lower than the £70 million Manchester City were reportedly seeking a year ago.
Speaking on talkSPORT, chief football correspondent Alex Crook said Spurs’ interest has never disappeared.
“I don’t think the interest from last summer and January has ever really gone away.
“It was Pep Guardiola who put the stoppers on that move this time a year ago and he had no kind of season at all at Manchester City.
“I think the player is keen to make the move and Roberto De Zerbi is keen to sign him. Around £60 million is the fee being touted, and this would be another addition to the Tottenham squad that De Zerbi is assembling.”
Tottenham’s hierarchy have already invested heavily during the transfer window as they back De Zerbi’s rebuilding project following successive 17th-place finishes.
The club have broken their transfer record twice this summer with the arrivals of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes, while Savinho would become one of the most expensive signings in Tottenham’s history if the proposed deal goes through.
Although Savinho has travelled with Manchester City for their pre-season tour of Asia under new head coach Enzo Maresca, his long-term future remains uncertain.
City face Inter Milan, the K League All-Stars and Atletico Madrid during the tour, but discussions over Savinho’s future are expected to continue as Tottenham push to reach an agreement before the transfer window closes.
