Paris Saint-Germain are preparing to increase their offer for Zion Suzuki as the European champions step up negotiations with Parma for the highly rated Japan goalkeeper.
PSG have already had an opening proposal rejected by the Serie A club and are expected to make fresh contact at the beginning of the week as they attempt to reach an agreement.
Reports in Italy indicate the French giants’ previous package was valued at around £28 million, with PSG now ready to improve their offer to approximately £30 million. Other reports have described the initial package as €28m plus €5m in bonuses.
Despite Parma’s rejection, PSG remain optimistic that negotiations can produce a breakthrough.
Suzuki has emerged as one of Europe’s most sought-after young goalkeepers after establishing himself in Serie A and with the Japan national team. The 23-year-old’s performances have also attracted attention from Premier League clubs this summer.
PSG’s interest is part of their longer-term planning between the posts. The French club have been assessing their goalkeeping options and believe Suzuki has the attributes to develop into a major player at the Parc des Princes.
The Japan international has earned particular praise for his physical presence, handling of crosses and distribution. His ability to launch attacks quickly with long throws has also become a distinctive part of his game.
Suzuki’s rise in European football has been rapid.
After beginning his senior career with Urawa Red Diamonds in Japan, he moved to Belgian club Sint-Truiden before joining Parma. He has since established himself as the Italian club’s first-choice goalkeeper while also becoming Japan’s No.1.
Parma are in a strong negotiating position and are demanding an improved financial package before agreeing to sell.
PSG, however, appear determined to get their man. Recent reports suggest negotiations have continued over the structure and value of the deal, with the French champions now ahead of other interested clubs in the race for Suzuki.
The next round of discussions could therefore prove decisive, with PSG preparing to test Parma’s resolve with an improved offer.
