Manchester United have initiated moves to sign prolific Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres (27) according to a report by Sky Sports News.
Gyokeres has scored 97 goals in 102 appearances for Sporting Lisbon since he joined them for £20m from English Championship side Coventry City in 2023.
United head coach Ruben Amorim who also joined the club from Sporting, is looking to reunite with the player who scored 66 goals for him Portugal.
Although its reported that Sporting have a release clause of around £84m (€100m), it is being suggested that there is also a gentleman’s agreement for offers slightly above £58m (€70m).
In the past season Gyokeres scored 54 goals in 52 games including a memorable hat trick against Manchester City in the Champions League, having previously bagged 43 in 50 goals in the 2023/24 campaign.
The Red Devils who finished a disappointing 15th in the league are on a massive rebuilding exercise having completed the signing of Wolves winger Matheus Cunha for £62.5 million and are working on a deal to sign Brentford star Bryan Mbeumo.
The strikers who are currently at the club, Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have struggled for goals and United could potentially look to ship them out of the club.
There is interest in Hojlund in Serie A where he excelled and convinced United to pay £72m for his services. League runners up Inter Milan are reportedly keen to offer £40m to price him away from Old Trafford.
