Manchester United emerge as the midfielder's preferred destination while Borussia Dortmund stand firm over a massive asking price.

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Felix Nmecha has reportedly made Manchester United his preferred Premier League destination as interest in the Germany international continues to grow following his impressive performances at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The 25-year-old has started all three of Germany’s group-stage matches under Julian Nagelsmann, helping his country finish top of their group and secure a place in the Round of 32. His displays have attracted renewed attention from several leading English clubs, with Manchester United, Newcastle United and Manchester City all monitoring his situation.

Manchester City’s interest could cool after agreeing a club-record £116 million deal for Elliot Anderson, leaving United and Newcastle among the strongest contenders should Dortmund decide to sell.

Manchester United remain in the market for another midfielder despite agreeing a deal for Atalanta’s Ederson. Michael Carrick’s side continue to admire West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes, although Tottenham Hotspur’s growing interest and West Ham’s valuation have complicated negotiations, forcing United to explore alternative options.

Newcastle are also monitoring Nmecha as uncertainty surrounds the futures of Bruno Guimaraes and Sandro Tonali. Reports suggest the Magpies view the Dortmund star as a potential long-term replacement should Guimaraes leave St James’ Park this summer.

According to reports in Germany, however, Nmecha would favour a move to either Manchester United or Manchester City ahead of Newcastle if he returns to the Premier League. His previous spell in Manchester City’s academy and the opportunity to compete regularly in the Champions League are believed to be significant attractions.

Despite the growing speculation, Borussia Dortmund are in no rush to sell.

The Bundesliga club recently tied Nmecha down to a new long-term contract running until 2030, strengthening their negotiating position. Reports claim Dortmund have placed an asking price of at least €120 million on the midfielder, with club officials determined to ward off interest unless an extraordinary offer arrives.

That valuation could prove problematic for potential buyers.

Manchester United remain focused on strengthening multiple areas of their squad this summer, while Newcastle would likely need to generate significant funds through player sales before making a move of that magnitude. Manchester City, meanwhile, may be reluctant to commit another nine-figure fee after securing Anderson.

Nmecha’s stock has risen sharply over the past 12 months following consistent performances for both Dortmund and Germany. Comfortable operating as a defensive midfielder, box-to-box midfielder or in a more advanced role, he has developed into one of the Bundesliga’s standout performers and is now regarded as one of Europe’s most complete midfielders.

For now, Dortmund remain confident they can keep hold of one of their prized assets. However, with Europe’s biggest clubs continuing to monitor his progress at the World Cup, Nmecha’s future is likely to remain one of the major transfer stories of the summer.
